Trevor C. Jones set for solo debut at Vail bar

When it comes to live shows, Trevor C. Jones, frontman for Frogs Gone Fishin', The Sessh and Ape Tit, has always been opposed to the idea of pressing play and walking away.

While his first-ever solo project is rooted in live looping and DJ productions, concertgoers can expect a human performance that is both interactive, high energy and danceable --imagine RJD2 meets Keller Williams.

"It's always been my philosophy that if people are dancing and having a good time, then I'm doing my job," Jones said. "It's hard to know when to pursue a solo project, but with all the good energy surrounding Frogs, The Sessh and Ape Tit, the timing just seemed right."

The New Orleans-inspired musician took time out of his touring schedule to hunker down and work on the self-titled solo recording, his second, which is available to both stream and download at www.trevorjonesmusic.bandcamp.com.

"I do a lot of the production with the beats, drums and bass," Jones said. "The difference between this and a standard DJ set is I'll pick up the guitar and rip a guitar line, or pick up the mic and rip a vocal line - or do the same thing with the keyboard. It has electronic sensibilities, but I have the option to loop an instrument whenever I want."

Aside from a couple James Brown samples that may appear in the performance, Jones creates every sound from scratch in his home studio. It definitely makes for a more abstract performance compared to his other projects, yet retains all the funkiness and danceability.
