The U.S. Forest Service is requesting community input on the proposed sale of a Dillon work compound to improve work facilities located there.
The White River National Forest is proposing to sell the approximately 11 acres of land that it owns in Summit County near U.S. Highway 6.
The Dillon work compound, located along County Road 51, is home to warehouse and storage buildings, as well as a few residences for long-term and seasonal staff and volunteers.
This action is being proposed as part of a forestwide effort to improve administrative facilities and decrease deferred maintenance costs.
Under authority given by Congress, the proceeds from this proposed sale will stay with the Forest Service and be invested into administrative facility redevelopment projects across the forest, including the Dillon Ranger District, said Bill Knight, the spokesman for the White River National Forest.
As part of the sale process, the ranger district is seeking input from the public regarding the environmental effects that may result from conveyance of these parcels out of federal ownership.
The request for comments that is being announced at this time is an official comment period, and only individuals or organizations that submit comments during this period are eligible to appeal the decision for the project. All comments must be received by Aug. 11.
