VAIL - The Hot Summer Nights free concert series offers a special twist Tuesday night. Concert-goers get to witness Colorado's top hip hop crews, choreographers and breakdancers battling it out live on stage for the 8150 title.
"Hot Summer Nights of Dance is always an exciting evening in the Valley, because it kicks off the Vail Valley Foundation's Vail International Dance Festival," said Martha Brassel, festival manager. "This year, we're raising the stakes and bringing the competition to a new level with a big-name judge panel as well as a $1,000 cash prize. We look forward to getting everyone off their feet and excited about dance on Tuesday night."
Five dance crews will compete for a $1,000 cash prize while nationally known dancers JD McElroy, Bgirl Shorty, Jet Li and Ronnie Ruen serve as judges and DJ BMoney spins the sounds of today's best in urban groove. Four breakdancers will also compete for a $500 cash prize before the judge panel takes the stage for a special performance with BreakEFX.
The five dance crews will be Business Casual from Boulder (directed by Audrey Gibson); Hype 303 from Aurora (directed by Sean Murley); KMDA from Arvada (directed by Krista Allen); Soulfully Driven from Littleton (directed by Jeff Perez); and United Dance Crew from Coolidge, Ariz. (directed by Anothony Cordova)
