Dance for $20.12 set for Tuesday night in Vail

VAIL - "See the music, hear the dance." The famous words of George Balanchine encompass the essence of what tonight's Vail International Dance Festival presentation represents - an evening of varying performances, all featuring world-class dancers and musicians, priced to allow all to see, hear and experience it. Seated tickets for $20.12 and lawn tickets for $12 are on sale now for performances by New York City Ballet's Robert Fairchild and Teresa Reichlen; selections by both Martha Graham Dance Company and Ballet X; and Pacific Northwest Ballet's Carla Körbes.

"The Vail Valley Foundation's VIDF (Vail International Dance Festival) was founded with a mission of advancing the art of dance and the culture of the Vail Valley community and its visitors, and Dance for $20.12 is one of the ways we illustrate that original intention in our festival's 24th year," said Martha Brassel, festival director for the VIDF. "Off-stage events like Celebrate the Beat bring the art of dance outside and into the general public; along those same lines, Dance for $20.12 opens the door for all in the community to come to the amphitheater and experience world-class dance."

Started in 2008 as "Dance for $20.08," the popularly priced evening has become a festival highlight for many in the Valley, with seats filling quickly for the chance at an evening that lowers its ticket price without sacrificing the quality of its program.

Among the pieces that will be performed during this mixed-bill sampler evening is "The Last Glass" by Matthew Neenan, performed by BalletX, a company known for adventurousness and striking choreography. In addition to BalletX's appearance, Martha Graham Dance Company will perform "Steps in the Streets" from Chronicle, a work created by Martha Graham in response to the menace of fascism in Europe. The piece evokes the devastation of war, but also a powerful rallying call to action. New York City Ballet's Fairchild and Reichlen, along with Pacific Northwest Ballet's Körbes add to an evening that promises diversity and excitement for its audience.

The Vail International Dance Festival enters its second of two weeks with several performances, including the Vail debut of the full Martha Graham Dance Company on Thursday, as well as the ever-popular Ballroom Spectacular on Friday and Dance TV performances, which closes out the festival on Saturday.
