VAIL -The Vail Jazz Festival presents the sixth installment of the Jazz @ Vail Square series Thursday night with the Tommy Igoe Sextet. The music gets underway at 6 p.m. at The Arrabelle in Lionshead.Tommy Igoe has toured the globe many times over with numerous top-shelf musicians, and his own bands are now getting the full attention they deserve. For four years, Igoe played to sold-out crowds every Friday night at the vaunted Birdland Big Band in New York City. He recently moved to San Francisco where every wee, he presents west coast big band at the Hotel Nikko with some of the hottest players in the Bay Area. Swinging and burning through old "chestnuts" and classic tunes, Igoe and his band play arrangements that blend the rich history of big band with a modern sensibility, using elements of rock to create a distinctive style of music.Igoe has shared the stage with such greats as Stanley Jordan, Art Garfunkel, Lauryn Hill, Patti Austin, David Wilcox and Blood, Sweat & Tears, to name a few. He is also an accomplished composer and arranger having written the "drum book" for Disney's musical, "The Lion King" on Broadway. Tickets for preferred seating at the front of the tent are $20 and guarantee concertgoers a spot for the entirety of the performance. Free general admission seating at the back of tent is also available on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information about the summer-long Vail Jazz Festival and the culminating Labor Day Vail Jazz Party, call 888-VAIL-JAM (888-824-5526) or visit www.vailjazz.org.
