Vail Valley Young Life benefit set for Sunday in Beaver Creek

In the past, the Vail Valley Young Life group has hosted a few banquets to raise funds for the Christian-based group, but this Sunday the group will host its biggest benefit to date. Grammy-nominated and Dove Award recipient Brandon Heath and Nashville star Matt Wertz will perform at the Ford Hall in Beaver Creek.

"Both Brandon and Matt grew up in Young Life, and are big supporters of it, which is great," said organizer Jennifer Baker. "They happen to be friends with our area director and so it was an easy sell to invite them out to the Vail Valley to support Young Life."

Baker said the music will appeal to "all audiences."

"Brandon is more of a Christian music artist, while Matt Wertz is an underground sort of artist from Nashville. The two of them have been roommates and played together for years so the dynamic they bring to the stage will be great," she said.

Most concerts Heath puts on are "big sold-out praise and worship type of concerts," Baker said. "In this setting you're going to see him doing more of an acoustic performance; you're going to get something way more intimate."

The evening will also include a silent and live auction with items from around the world. The Park Hyatt will serve heavy appetizers and drinks.

Proceeds from the event benefit Young Life, whose mission is as follows: "We are committed to introducing adolescents to Jesus Christ and helping them grown in their faith. Young Life also aims to establish and maintain a presence at all high schools and middle schools in the local area."

The group recently took 65 local kids on a camping trip and hope to take 300 kids from Eagle County on similar outings over the next three years.

Tickets are $75 per person and are available online at www.lightupthenight.net or by phone at 970-445-0606.
