Peach IPA tapping party in Edwards benefits local animal charity

EDWARDS - Dogs and craft beer are quintessential Colorado. Crazy Mountain Brewery is throwing a tapping party Sunday to release its late summer seasonal beer: "Drink A Peach" IPA. This brew was crafted with 150 pounds of free-stone Palisade peaches from the Ripe Produce Stand in Edwards. The tapping will be from noon to 5 p.m. and features $2 pints of the Drink A Peach IPA, named after an Allman Brothers album.

The party is a fundraiser benefiting the Megan Councilman Fund, a non-profit run by the Humane Society that provides financial assistance for pets requiring emergency veterinary care. Most pet owners do not set aside a budget in their checking accounts for pet emergencies. After-hours and weekend veterinary care can be quite expensive, and pets will not be treated unless payment is immediately received for services rendered.

"My chocolate lab, Doobie, deeply cut his pad on some metal schrapnel on a Saturday and the bill ended up being about $900 for emergency stitches and treatment," said Crazy Mountain's owner, Kevin Selvy. "I definitely didn't have funds set aside for something unexpected like this. The Megan Councilman Fund will help a lot of pet owners who otherwise couldn't afford emergency treatment and would have to let their animal suffer. This is a non-profit the brewery feels strongly about contributing toward,"

Megan Councilman was a local dog who was hit by a car and her owners could not afford emergency medical care, so she passed away. Crazy Mountain Brewery will donate 100 percent of the proceeds from Sunday's tapping party to the fund. Dr. Charlie Meynier of Vail Valley Animal Hospital will also be at Crazy Mountain Brewery to answer any pet related questions you may have.

"Bring your dogs and enjoy a $2 pint of the Peach IPA in the sun on Sunday afternoon," Selvy said.
