Harvest Party set for Friday in Eagle-Vail

The annual Harvest Party has been going on for a decade and a half, and it returns Friday.

"This is the 15th year we have done this," said David Courtney with Beaver Liquors.

Not so long ago it was a fundraiser for the Eagle Valley Humane Society, but then a bunch of life happened in the Courtney household.

"My wife and I had three children so we switched from dogs and cats to kids," Courtney said.

So now it's a benefit for the Eagle County Charter Academy.

"We collaborate with the chefs and Beaver Liquors provides the wine that are paired with that dish," Courtney said. "It's 29 wines from around the world, and we're not skimping on the wine. Everything retails for up to $70 a bottle."

For example, Vin 48 is doing confit of lamb leg, chick pea puree, Greek yogurt tzatziki sauce and mint.

The Last Course is doing braised beef short ribs with creamy Gorgonzola polenta, baby greens and demi-glace.

Mountain Flour is serving dessert: a pumpkin cheese cake, traditional pecan pie and hand made chocolates with caramel.

The restaurant list is long and impressive, Courtney said.

"You can't go to one of these restaurants and get out the door for $40 for food and wine," Courtney said.

The live entertainment is Turntable Review, a cross between Janis Joplin and Adele.

They sell it out every single year, Courtney said.

You cannot buy tickets at the door. In fact, they don't even have them available at the door. Tickets must be purchased through Beaver Liquors in Avon, and picked up there.

They're giving away a VIP tour of Napa and the wineries. They have lots of gift certificates and other silent auction items.

"It's a great event. We'll try to make sure everyone leaves with something," Courtney said.
