Margaret Cuellar de la Rosa passed away on Sept. 2 at her daughter Leticia's home in Birmingham, Ala.
Margie (as she was lovingly called) was born on Feb. 2, 1942, to William R. Cuellar and Alicia Garza Cuellar.
Margie is survived by her husband, Robert de la Rosa; daughters Leticia de la Rosa-Creasey (Jon), of Birmingham, and Cynthia Yalcindag (Burak), of Davie, Fla.; sisters Alicia Reyes, of McAllen, Texas, and Lydia Colomb (Homer), of Houma, La., Rebecca Beattie (Bobby), of McAllen, Texas; brother William R. Cuellar, of Sharyland, Texas; brother-in-law Hector (Buddy) de la Rosa (Terry), of Weslaco, Texas; grandchildren Damon and Breanna de la Rosa-Glanz, Jazlyn Creasey, of Birmingham, and Devrim and Savas Yalcindag, of Ft.Lauderdale, Fla.
Margie was preceded in death by her parents, William R. Cuellar and Alicia Garza Cuellar; mother-in-law and father-in law, Viola de la Rosa and Robert de la Rosa; and a niece, Rosa Estela Reyes.
Margie graduated from McAllen High School in 1961. She received a bachelor's degree in education from Incarnate Word College in San Antonio, Texas. She went on to achieve a master's degree in education from Pan American University. She worked in McAllen, Mission and La Joya school districts and was a principal in Edinburg ISD. She was a youth coordinator at The Youth Foundation, working in the after-school program at Berry Creek Middle School. She was an instructor at Colorado Mountain College and worked for Marcin Engineering in Eagle. She dedicated her gift of teaching to help others prosper and held strongly to the belief that knowledge is power.
