AVON - The Avon Town Council Tuesday decided to delay until Sept. 25 a vote on an ordinance that would have cleared the way to settle a long-running lawsuit between the town and the developers of the Village at Avon.
The ordinance would make numerous changes to a 1998 agreement that brought the 1,700-acre property - which now is home to Wal-Mart and Home Depot - into town.
Critics of the changes, many of whom are residents of the Eaglebend neighborhood, have said the proposal as written is too vague and puts too much uncertainty literally into their back yards.
Council members Tuesday said they needed to see a more comprehensive version of the proposal - now in its 16th version - before they could vote on it.
"There are too many holes, too many undecided directions," council member Buz Reynolds said. "I want to have everything pegged down before we vote."
