EDWARDS --Manic Training has quickly gained a following in the Vail Valley. Now the business is expanding its training program with a ski conditioning program geared to getting participants in their best shape ever for this ski season. Endurance athlete Andy Picking brought the training method to the area and opened up a new facility in Edwards last February. Along the way, Picking recruited some talented local personal trainers, including Olympic and World Cup ski racer Kristina Koznick, Lakota River guide Ryan McCombs, ski patroller Becca Curtis and personal trainer Laura Seelig.
"We are very excited to bring ski conditioning with a Manic twist to our members," Picking said. "We have found a great group of trainers who really understand the principles of Manic Training as well as the different pursuits of the local community here and what they like to do athletically and recreationally."
Manic programs are designed to increase strength, power, work capacity and durability for real world challenges. Ski conditioning will be no different, except that it will focus on the core muscle groups that are used in skiing and incorporate aerobic exercises that help with the quick bursts of energy that are typical to a great powder day on the slopes. Manic Trainer, Kristina Koznick, knows what it takes to get ready for the ski season.
"Manic is one of the most exciting programs I have seen in a long time," she said. "I know that this program will get our members more ready than they have ever been for a great season on the slopes."
Classes begin Oct. 2 and run for nine weeks through Dec. 1. Classes are Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings at either 6 a.m. or 7:15 a.m. The total cost is $150, and will be broken up into two payments, $75 at time of joining and the remaining $75 by Nov. 1. The staff at Manic Training highly encourages attendees to join as soon as possible as rates will not be prorated if you join the program late. To receive the best athletic benefit from the program you should plan to attend three days a week for the duration of the session.
