Bridge to close on Coffee Pot Road

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado - Buck Creek Bridge, located within the Eagle/Holy Cross District of the White River National Forest on Forest Service Road 600 (Coffee Pot Road), will be closed three days for emergency repairs from 8 a.m. Monday morning through 6 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

No detour will be available during that time. The bridge itself is located approximately 38 miles up Forest Service Road 600, and approximately one mile before the end of that road.

Just north of Dotsero and I-70, Coffee Pot Road provides access to the forest and the southern portion of the Flat Tops Wilderness Area. Most areas and accesses remain open to vehicular travel up to the bridge crossing, including Heart Lake and Deep Lake, Indian Camp, The Meadows areas and their associated designated trailheads.-

The timber bridge crossing Buck Creek has deteriorated over time. In 2011 it was posted for a maximum load of 3 tons. Temporary emergency measures are now necessary to ensure user safety. A temporary bridge will be installed above the existing bridge, and will remain in place until a replacement can be designed, financed and constructed.
