MINTURN, Colorado - John Wayne gets replaced by Jack Torrance (Heeeeere's Johnny!) from "The Shining" in the name of charity and fun at the Minturn Saloon on Saturday starting at 8 p.m. A $10 cover at the door goes directly to the nonprofit Minturn Community Fund and gets you a free beer along with door-prize entry. A costume contest is customary and there will be live music from The Min'urn Express, which is rumored to be bringing a special guest. The theme for this year's party is "Psycho Killers." If you're having trouble narrowing down your costume choice, a scruffy, tired, mountain-man look, i.e. Jack from "The Shining," may be a good suggestion.
The Halloween party is an annual celebration at the Minturn Saloon to help raise money for the Minturn Community Fund, a local nonprofit whose mission is to facilitate grants for community projects, organize community events and assist neighbors in need.
"The funds specifically help us with a matching grant from Battle Mountain Resort," said Jodi Jahrling, executive director of the Minturn Community Fund. "Every cover will be matched up to $750."
Located in the heart of the old railroad and mining town of Minturn, the Saloon's building dates back to 1901. During the past 100 years, it has been, at one time or another, home to various taverns, restaurants and even back-room gambling for railroaders. If there's any place to celebrate a "spooky" evening, it's at a place with hundreds of tales to tell.
