Brownie, a sweet, older mare taken in by MVHR when her family could no longer afford to feed her, has had a rough week. Last Wednesday, her entire digestive system went into a complete standstill, and we feared we would lose her. Thanks to the amazing efforts and knowledge of Dr. Silvia Stocker, Brownie is now doing great - eating again with gusto and running in the pasture! She seems well on the way to a full recovery. Her medical services racked up quite a vet bill ($650), and Dr. Stocker has recommended a couple of medications to help recovery continue - Ulcergard for another 20 days (as we believe ulcers may have been the culprit in the digestive upset) which will cost just under $25 a day or a total of $496; and Previcox for the long-term management of Brownie's arthritic pain in her legs and elsewhere which will cost $1 per day for the rest of her life. Please help however you can! Maybe you could cover a week of Previcox ($7), a day of Ulcergard ($25) or would be willing to contribute towards her vet bill? Let us know how you'd like to help - or go to MVHR to make a donation. Please note "Brownie" so that funds you send can go directly to her care. Thank you!
