AVON, Colorado - The Avon Town Council Tuesday unanimously approved its 2013 budget. While the budget document has any number of numbers, here's an important set: The town will spend less on operating expenses than it did in 2011 or 2012.
The expected total of spending on operations for 2013 is $14.3 million, compared to $14.8 million in 2011 and $14.7 million this year. That total reflects some good news for town employees - the end of mandatory "furlough days."
Total town expenses, including debt service, capital improvements, equipment replacement and transfers to other funds bring the grand total for 2013 to $23.2 million.
While town officials have estimated known revenues and expenses, 2013 will hold a bit of mystery - the antipated revenue and expenses related to the Village at Avon legal settlement.
The town will receive a .75 percent "sales fee" from stores at the Village at Avon, which is expected to pay for the town taking over street maintenance and other jobs at the development.
Town finance director Scott Wright said he'll have a better idea of how that will affect the town's finances as the town gets closer to actually finalizing the settlement, and has a better idea of revenue streams and when they'll start flowing.
"You guys have done a phenomenal job ... in some doggone difficult circumstances," Mayor Rich Carroll said.
