Beaver Creek running annual poetry contest

BEAVER CREEK, Colorado - Beaver Creek's annual poetry contest is asking youngsters to write about how they'd make the world a better place.

This year's contest theme is, "What wish or message would you like to share that expresses how you would like to make the world a better place?"

The winning poet will read his or her poem at the Beaver Creek tree lighting ceremony, 6 p.m., Nov. 23. The winning poet will receive receive a $100 savings bond.

The contest is open to children ages 5 through 12.

The entry deadline is 5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19. To be eligible for the grand prize, entrants must be able to attend the Beaver Creek tree lighting.

Entry forms are available at www.beavercreekkids.com. Teachers are encouraged call Blue Creek Productions to pick up class entries.

All entries need to include child's full name and age, parent's name, and day and evening phone numbers.

"It is such a joy to read the various entries to this contest," said Brian Hall, Blue Creek Productions, Inc. president and coordinator of the contest. "The creativity and insight of children warms my heart every time. It's a magical moment to see the winning child read his or her poem in front of 2,000 people gathered at Beaver Creek during the Tree Lighting Ceremony. The crowd goes wild and the child is just beaming."

The contest is sponsored by Beaver Creek Resort, Blue Creek Productions and the Beaver Creek Children's Theatre Company.
