Woman dies in Wolcott rollover

WOLCOTT, Colorado - Local traffic accidents claimed their third victim in a week.

A Wednesday morning rollover in Wolcott killed a woman when the pickup truck in which she was riding rolled over on Interstate 70.

Just after 10 a.m. Wednesday, the driver of a Chevy Avalanche pickup truck lost control near Wolcott and traveled off the right side of the roadway, according to the State Patrol. The vehicle then rolled over one and a half times, coming to rest on its roof.

The woman was pronounced dead on scene by Eagle County Coroner Kara Bettis. Police did not identify the woman, and Bettis could not be reached Wednesday.

The driver and another passenger in the pickup, both males, suffered moderate to serious injuries and were transported to the Vail Valley Medical Center. Their injuries are not life threatening, the State Patrol said.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Neither alcohol nor drugs are considered factors at this time, the State Patrol said.

All occupants were wearing seatbelts, police said.

The crash shut down the right lane of eastbound Interstate 70 for nearly four hours. Both lanes of eastbound I-70 were reopened at approximately 1:50 p.m.

Wednesday's fatality was the second this week in Wolcott.

Cody Herrman, 35, from Westminster, died about 3:30 a.m. Monday when he lost control of his 2000 Volvo sedan on icy roads in Wolcott, police said.

On Saturday afternoon a woman was killed and a man was seriously injured when the vehicle in which they were passengers in rolled off Interstate 70 near Eagle.
