EAGLE COUNTY, Colorado - The Eagle County Board of Commissioners will review the proposed 2013 county budget beginning at 2 p.m. Tuesday. The meeting will take place in the Eagle County Room, located at 500 Broadway in Eagle. All interested community members are encouraged to attend. Tuesday's presentation will also be aired live on ecotv18 and streamed live and archived for later viewing at www.ecotv18.com.
As proposed, General Fund operating expenditures will be approximately $29.6 million for 2013, representing a $2.7 million decrease from 2012. Across all funds, expenditures are budgeted at $84 million and revenues are budgeted at $90 million for 2013, down from $88 million and $92 million respectively in 2012.
The reductions are in response to projected continued declines in revenue. While sales tax collections improved in 2012, property tax revenues represented close to a 24 percent reduction from 2011 and are anticipated to decline by an additional 20 percent in 2014 and 2015.
The county began preparing for the current decline in revenues in 2009 and has decreased its General Fund expenditures every year since. Over the same period, General Fund reserves have increased from $15.4 million to $18.6 million.-
Final adoption of the budget and the county's mill levy is scheduled for Dec. 11, with certification of mill levies for all taxing entities set for Dec. 18. For more information, contact Eagle County Finance Director John Lewis at 970-328-3511.
