EAGLE, Colorado - Come be a part of an event that raises money for the Food Bank and Girl PowHER, a project of Vail Valley Foundation's Youth Foundation.
The event is Friday from 5:30-7 p.m. at Brush Creek Pavilion in Eagle. Suggested donation is $10 and/or an item for the food bank.
Middle school girls and teachers throughout the Vail Valley have been participating in the Girl PowHER yoga program for the past seven weeks.
"What makes Girl PowHER unique is the ability for girls to recognize what values reside within each of them and then act from that newfound awareness," said Anne-Marie Desmond, Girl PowHER coordinator. "Yoga has given these girls a sense of connectivity which has increased support for themselves, each other and their community. With this, they have helped to create the upcoming Yoga Jam that gives back to their community."
Girl PowHER yoga integrates concepts that encourage acceptance and provides strategies for positive coping and self-regulation. Yoga shows that the power of breath not only relaxes the mind but also stimulates focus in the brain, ultimately fueling the learning process.
Yoga instructors Rachel Delong, Yvonne Schwartz, Lisa Proulx, along with special guests from participating Girl PowHER middle schools, will lead a all-levels yoga practice. There will also be raffle prizes donated from local businesses throughout the valley. Yoga mats will be provided for those who need them.
Participants will arrive 15 minutes prior to the event. For more information contact the Youth Foundation at 970-777-2015 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
