Storm brings much-needed snow to Vail, Beaver Creek

BEAVER CREEK, Colorado - This weekend's winter storm brought the first big powder day of the season, and Beaver Creek received 11 inches of new snow overnight and 14 inches in the past two days.Ski Patrol dropped the ropes on eight more trails Sunday, and the Strawberry Park Express Lift (Chair 12) opened for the season, providing skier access to Bachelor Gulch via Primrose trail. In total, Beaver Creek now has 341 acres of terrain, 20 trails and six main lifts plus eight surface lifts for beginners. Cold temperatures also allowed snowmakers to work around the clock to continue making snow, and the favorable forecast for the week ahead is great news for skiers. On Sunday, Ski Patrol opened the following additional trails, offering 19 percent of its total terrain:• Red Buffalo.• Centennial.• Double Diamond.• Cinch below Red Buffalo.• Upper Stacker.• Bitterroot.• Overshot.• Primrose.

Vail Mountain received 9 inches of fresh snow overnight as of Sunday morning, providing skiers and snowboarders some of the first powder turns of the season. With the arrival of new snow, guests can look for more terrain to open soon, Vail officials said.The snow arrived just in time, as the resort prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary on Saturday, as well as the entire week leading up to it, with Snow Daze taking place Monday through Sunday, including concerts from The Shins on Thursday, Michael Franti & Spearhead on Friday and headliner act Wilco on Saturday.
