What goods or services do you provide? We are an upscale consignment boutique that specializes primarily in women's clothing and accessories, but we also carry men's clothing, local artist goods, unique gifts and a few brand-new retail lines.
What's new or exciting at your place? We just celebrated our two-year anniversary! We moved our original Eagle store from 214 Capitol St. to an old house built in 1908 at 120 Broadway in Eagle in October of last year.
Due to the positive feedback during our first year and a half in business, we decided to bring Rouge up-valley and opened a second location at 137 Main St. at Riverwalk in Edwards. We are located in the Diamond Building above Dogma Athletica with plenty of parking.
The response we are receiving with our second location has been amazing and we look forward to celebrating with a grand opening bash today. Everyone coming in that day will receive 20 percent off all purchases (including furs and jewelry) plus a $100 Rouge gift certificate giveaway as well as refreshments to keep your energy levels up for more shopping.
What strategy do you use to differentiate your business from your competition? When we opened our first store in 2010, we recognized the need for a more affordable shopping option in the valley. We try to accept a wide variety of consignments in varying price levels to accommodate the diversity of people who live in and visit the Vail Valley. We choose our consignments based not only on good condition and original retail value, but also on what is in style and what is just darn cute!
We strive to be more than just a consignment store. We really pride ourselves in getting to know our consignors and shoppers and encourage them to come in for a refreshment, bring their girlfriends and have a fun atmosphere to really enjoy themselves shopping.
What philosophy do you follow in dealing with your customers? What can your customers expect from you? We have been consignors at other stores in the past and know that there is a responsibility to the consignor to price and sell their items as fairly as possible while still maintaining our own business goals and providing our customers with great styles at great values.
We realize every customer is not us and we need to accommodate all styles and income levels so that we develop a strong customer following and have a lot of happy return customers.
Tell us a little about your background, education and experience: Michelle Anderson has always loved fashion and any creative endeavor. In addition to running Rouge with Joselyn, she is an interior designer whose recent projects include The Metropolitan Wine Bar in Beaver Creek, Taddeo's Ristorante in Breckenridge and Luigi's Pastahouse in Eagle Ranch.
Joselyn Brubaker graduated from Bradley University in Illinois with a degree in advertising, marketing and multimedia. Her talents in creativity and customer service have taken her in this new direction and she is loving every minute of being a business owner.
What is the most humorous thing that has happened at your business since you opened? The stories are too numerous to list (and some not suitable to print!), but we have met a cast of unique individuals who will surely show up in our made-for-TV movie we will someday have time to write. Keep checking your local listings!
