What goods or services do you provide? Richter Fine Art Photography uses the finest products available in today's competitive and sophisticated market. Every aspect of our product is considered the gold standard of the industry, from our hand-crafted artisan framing to the heirloom-quality silver halide photographic paper that gives John's work a clear edge over the competition. Let us show you why no other photographer today can compete with John Richter's amazing Masterpiece Collection!

What's new or exciting at your place? John shoots with a large format film camera and can therefore enlarge his photographs up to 8 feet in a single piece without losing any detail, and as large as 20 feet using panels. Currently in our Vail gallery we have a photograph of an aspen grove that is a triptych. This piece measures 50 inches tall by 120 inches wide. It literally gives you the feeling of standing in a forest on a beautiful autumn day!

What strategy do you use to differentiate your business from your competition? As mentioned above, we offer only the very best the industry has to offer for fine art photography. Another way we have set ourselves apart is our price points. We are able to offer very competitive pricing on entry level editions. If you fall in love with the work, we have something that can fit most budgets.

What philosophy do you follow in dealing with your customers? What can your customers expect from you? Customer service is the cornerstone of any business - without our clients, we would not exist! We can photograph your walls and superimpose images when it is not possible to make a house call. We are also willing to help find someone in your area to install your artwork. We also guarantee every photograph for 60 years!

Tell us a little about your background, education and experience:

From a young age, John knew that being an influential artist was his calling. He took an introductory course to photography in high school and fell in love with capturing our natural world on film. After high school, he moved to Telluride, where he was captivated by the vast wilderness and scenic vistas.

In 2001, he purchased his large format film camera which gave him the opportunity to bring to life these majestic places in a photographic print. Since 2008 John has been a pioneer in printing on this silver halide medium, creating the most vivid, archival, and life-like photographs.

What is the most humorous thing that has happened at your business since you opened? In the summer of 2008 we went backpacking in Grand Teton National Park. My son, Wyndom, was 9 and my daughter Sierra, was 6. Our goal was to camp eight miles up Cascade Canyon. We decided to stop two miles in for a dip in Jenny Lake, one of the most beautiful alpine lakes of the Rockies. We were enjoying ourselves when suddenly I heard a splash and saw my very heavy pack with 50 pounds of camera gear and the family's sleeping bags floating in the lake! We had to spend an hour drying out my camera and film, and, of course, the sleeping bags.
