VAIL, Colorado - Vail Mountain opened Chairs 5 and 17 Friday morning, a day ahead of the terrain opening schedule announced by the resort Thursday afternoon. Those who were lucky enough to be there for the opening reported spectacular conditions and deep snow."We were there and it was powderlicious," wrote Mike Maher, on the Vail Daily's Facebook page. "Best day of the ski season so far. Lot's of 'wooo hoooo's' could be heard."Those who didn't make it - and especially those who skipped Friday because they thought the new terrain opening would happen today - were both jealous and disappointed. "What the heck Vail I thought you guys said you weren't opening the bowls till Saturday," wrote Ian Lockhart on Vail Mountain's Facebook page.Vail Mountain staff responded to Lockhart and others that Saturday was the plan, "but Ski Patrol was able to get them ready ahead of schedule. We're committed to opening terrain as soon as it's ready."Vail Mountain also posted that there's still plenty of terrain opening in the coming weeks that should satisfy powder fixes. Some of that terrain could potentially open this weekend, although nothing has been confirmed.
