Skating Club of Vail holiday shows scheduled for Saturday and Sunday

The Skating Club of Vail's annual holiday ice-skating shows are slated for Saturday and Sunday at 6 p.m. The shows take place at the Dobson Ice Arena in Vail on the free in-town bus route.

"Once Upon a Time" is a theater-on-ice extravaganza featuring local skaters, as well as guest skaters from Florida and Mexico City. Under direction of Dawn Ristow, this year's magic will include creative twists from "Peter Pan," "Snow White," "Alice in Wonderland" and "Shrek."

Athletes ranging in age from 3 to 50 will entertain family members of all ages. Participants include skaters from the Skating Club of Vail and Vail Recreation Department's Story Time and Learn-To-Skate programs.

The show will feature a nationally ranked guest skater, Lucas Kaugars, age 17, currently ranked fifth in the nation at the junior level. Kaugars trains in Colorado Springs under Damon Allen and recently won the Gardena Spring Trophy in Italy. He has competed in Slovenia on the Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating circuit and will compete again at the 2013 Nationals.

Ticket prices are $10 for children younger than 18 and $20 for adults, and children younger than 2 are free. Doors open at 5 p.m. for ticket purchases the day of the show.
