In the commentary "Don't blame the grooming" Sunday, by Vail's chief operating officer, he misses the point throughout his article. I along with others are not questioning the quality, quantity or number of hours of grooming.
The groomers perform a wonderful job. The timing (no grooming from 8:30 a.m. on) of the grooming is the issue with many of us at Beaver Creek.
By moving the early morning hours earlier, the runs are pretty well skied out by mid-morning on many days.
He states that grooming in prior years ceased at 10:30 a.m. I must be missing something here because in prior years we would follow the cats starting at Arrowhead on many mornings to Bachelor Gulch, ending at the village just before noon.
In addition, one would think that the chief operating officer would realize that perception can be as important as reality. Perception is what brings guests to the resorts.
I hope that the executives at Vail Resorts reconsider and bring back the prior years' grooming schedule as Beaver Creek and Vail continue to be the world-class resorts they are.
