Vail Daily letter: Perception of less persists

My wife and I have been regular visitors to Colorado for the skiing for the past four years, attracted by the guaranteed snow and superb grooming. It is therefore with some dismay that whilst in Vail last week we learned of Vail Resorts' decision to reduce the amount of grooming on the mountain.

It was noticeable to us that there was also a lack of patrols on the mountain, with the less responsible skiers and boarders taking advantage and ignoring the safety warning signs.

To exacerbate the situation, we found a lack of accurate information on what grooming had been done.

It was all very similar to the situation in many European resorts we have visited during the years, where grooming is haphazard and safety rules are often ignored.

If the same is happening in the Vail Resorts, then it will no longer be worth the 20-hour journey or the high cost of ski passes, which are more than double those pertaining in Europe.

We have had some wonderful vacations in Colorado, so please think again about your change in policy, Vail Resorts.
