Vail Vitality Center hosts heart health lecture

VAIL - In celebration of heart health this Valentine's Day, the Vail Vitality Center is pleased to present an interactive lecture from cardiac specialist Alan Markowitz, MD on the cardiovascular system of the aging athlete. This special presentation details adaptations the heart and cardiovascular system make in the aging body, and the relevance of exercise as a result. Participants will learn more about the affects of high altitude training on overall fitness, an important consideration for mountain-dwellers and visitors. The Aging Athlete with Markowitz takes place Friday, from 6 to 7 p.m., at the Vail Vitality Center at Vail Mountain Lodge.Markowitz is a cardiac surgeon specializing in valve reconstruction and replacement. He currently serves as the chief surgical officer and director of the Valve Center at the Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute located at the University Hospital/Case Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio. He also serves as the Chief of the Division of Cardiac Surgery. Markowitz is a recipient of the Dolly Haugh Chair in Valvular Heart Surgery. A part time resident of the Vail Valley for the past 35 years, Markowitz is an active runner, hiker and skier.
