Vail Daily letter: Whether you are 8 or 98

I would like to have moved to Vail in 1962. However, I arrived in July 1988 to find an established community where Travis and I were welcomed and supported in ways too numerous to mention.

A very short time later, Travis was as confident as local children were jumping on the east Vail bus to tennis, soccer, hockey, my office or our home at the Racquet Club.

Twenty-five years later, my father decided to return to Colorado's high mountains and live with me.

He arrived last July in time to celebrate his 98th birthday.

I feel fortunate to have this opportunity.

It is not without tremendous community effort and support that I have been able to make our situation meaningful.

With Valentine's Day this week, it is an appropriate time to express our appreciation to those who have served me and my father, Elmer Facer, so well.

Thank you, ECO para transit department staff, Pat Nolan, Bev and Elmer Christensen, Lynn Kanakas and the upvalley seniors, Vail Racquet Health Club staff, town of Vail transportation department supervisors and the east Vail route drivers.

I appreciate the many times that you fill in the gap between what is scheduled and what becomes reality. I can tell that you have all grown to love my dad when I observe how you pick up and put pieces together again as fast as I am able to respond to your call expressing concern.
