AVON, Colorado - The town of Avon, famous for its Independence Day celebrations and accompanying fireworks display, will blast off more than 10,000 shells of fireworks this today with the special event The Westin Riverfront Fire & Ice in Nottingham Park.Celebrating 35 years, Avon will set off the largest winter fireworks display in the state starting at 6:30 p.m. today in celebration of Presidents Day. Beginning at 3 p.m., attendees of The Westin Riverfront Fire & Ice event will see six world-renowned ice carving masters - led by Scott Rella, founder of icesculpture.com - which includes world champions as they battle in a carving competition starting at 3 p.m. The ice competition will culminate with the Peoples' Choice Award, followed by an ice bonfire.Be entertained by balloon sculptors, fire and light hula-hoop artists and live music from Turntable Review. Stay cozy by the fire pits and in the warming huts while enjoying a hearty bowl of chili and a hot drink.Fire & Ice in Nottingham Park's grand finale is Avon's legendary fireworks display. Starting at 6:30 p.m., this will be the largest winter fireworks show in the Colorado Rockies set to a musical score and broadcast locally on KZYR 97.7.Attendees are encouraged to ride public transportation, as parking is limited near the event venue.
