What goods or services do you provide? At Brewski Bones we take an unwanted by product from the brewing process - spent grains - and make them into delicious and nutritious dog treats that help fuel our furry friends. The treats are a great source of protein, fiber, and micro-nutrients for the active dogs we have in the mountains. Currently we work closely with Crazy Mountain Brewery to procure our spent grain. Our original recipe, Beaver Balls, are currently available at eight retailers in the Vail Valley and available to the world at brewskibones.com. You can drink a beer and know the grains from that brew provide your dog with a great tasting Brewski Bone.

What's new or exciting at your place? Acceptance into the Vail and Minturn summer markets have given our young company a way to gain a lot of visibility among locals and tourists alike. We are also currently experimenting with different flavored recipes that both taste great and are healthy treats for our dogs. Flavor varieties such as pumpkin, bacon, and sweet potato can be expected over the next year.

What strategy do you use to differentiate your business from your competition? In an industry that commonly uses ingredients that can't be pronounced to give their products a longer shelf life, we only use all-natural ingredients. We focus on healthy, fresh, preservative-free treats that are made from human grade ingredients.

In our experience at craft breweries from Vermont to Colorado we have noticed a common trend of craft beer drinkers being dog owners, and many of them seem to have a keen interest in environmental issues. We created Brewski Bones so other beer drinking dog owners can "share suds with their furry buds" in a healthy, all-natural, sustainable way.

What philosophy do you follow in dealing with your customers? What can your customers expect from you? Consistency. We strive to have a strong retail presence both locally and nationally, and the only way to do this is provide a consistently good product. Customers purchasing Brewski Bones can expect that the product is fresh, environmentally friendly, supports local business, and is healthy nutrition for their dogs. Everyone who purchases from Brewskibones.com can count on our product arriving at their door to be fresh and undamaged just as it would appear on shelves locally.

Tell us a little about your background, education and experience. Brewski Bones was founded by two college friends with a passion for craft beer and creating an environmentally friendly company.

Mark graduated from the University of Vermont with a degree in business administration and marketing in 2006 and has been living in the Vail area ever since.

Kyle has a degree in environmental science. Growing up on a farm Kyle gained a lot of knowledge about the nutritional needs of the animals, including working dogs. This knowledge combined with a passion for environmental awareness has helped create Brewski Bones.

What is the most humorous thing that has happened at your business since you opened? At our first public event we had two adults who wanted to see who could eat three Brewski Bones the quickest and say "Brewski Bone" without spitting any pieces out. Since Brewski Bones are made from all natural human grade ingredients they were all about it and there was no stopping them. The competition was not fueled by the promise of free treats but solely on the desire for two adults to compete with each other. One of them couldn't stop laughing and snarffed a treat. It was hilarious!
