Vail Daily letter: Liberal elite clips rights

Wake up, America!

The liberal elite are working to redefine your rights such that, if they are successful, your inalienable rights will look more like an entitlement granted by the government.

In state after state from New York, California, Washington and, sadly, Colorado legislatures are being manipulated by liberals and Democrats whose answers to almost every problem is more government control.

The Second Amendment to the Constitution protects the rights of an individual to keep and bear firearms.

This right was instituted within the Bill of Rights to face down government tyranny, uphold the laws and to facilitate the natural right to self-defense.

Increasingly our elected representatives, mostly liberal Democrats, are trying to put government controls between the people and our constitution.

In Washington state, Democrats introduced a bill which would allow local sheriffs to enter homes of gun owners to ensure their legal weapons are stored properly. Once this detail was exposed the bill was withdrawn.

Sen. Adam Kline of Seattle said he sponsored the legislation without reading the eight page bill. Eight pages! Sound familiar?

In New York state, a bill was introduced by a Democrat assemblyman that will require all gun owners in New York to obtain and maintain liability insurance coverage of at least $1 million. It's estimated that this insurance would cost $1,600-$2,000 per year.

In Colorado there have been debates on four anti-gun bills. The comments from the legislators have been both bizarre and sexist.

Democratic Rep. Joe Salazar intimated that women can't be trusted with guns in threatening situations "because you just don't know who you're going to be shooting at." Do you suppose he favors the administration's decision to put women in combat?

In debating and supporting a restriction of concealed carry on college campuses, state Sen. Jesse Ulibarri stated that a potential female victim, rather than shoot at her assailant, would be better off using "a ball point pen" to stab him when he reloads. Seriously?

At the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, officials suggest that "passive resistance may be your best defense." They recommend that girls "tell your attacker that you have a disease or are menstruating."

They advise potential victims that "vomiting or urinating may also convince the attacker to leave you alone."

These are the same liberal hypocrites who support a woman's right to choose to end an unborn baby's life but wouldn't allow the woman to have the right to determine the means to save her own. To think that they were able to convince an uninformed electorate that the GOP was conducting a "war on women" because they opposed using tax dollars to pay for birth control pills. OMG!

It's interesting how liberals think that requiring a photo ID will result in voter suppression and is a significant burden for eligible voters and therefore should be unconstitutional.

A photo ID wouldn't cost a voter anything. Why don't these same liberals feel that searching the home of a gun owner, requiring a $2,000 insurance policy or paying for a background check is also unconstitutional?
