Authors meet readers in Beaver Creek May 18

What do best-selling novelists Robert Goolrick, Peter Heller, and Laura Moriarty all have in common?

They will be the featured speakers at Books in Bloom, Eagle Valley Library District's annual Authors Event. This wonderful ensemble will come together on Saturday, May 18, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Pines Lodge in Beaver Creek. Make sure to mark your calendar!

Tickets go on sale Monday, March 18. With an early discounted price of $45 and limited space, interested readers are encouraged to register early.

Robert Goolrick is best known for "Reliable Wife," which received critical acclaim. His latest novel, "Heading out to Wonderful," is a tale of love gone terribly wrong. Oprah magazine described it as "deliciously dark and dangerous."

Peter Heller is an award winning adventure writer. He lives in Colorado, and his debut fiction, "Dog Stars," received star reviews when it was published last year. The story is a post-apocalyptic tale that takes place in our home state.

Laura Moriarty has written several books, including "While I'm Falling," "The Rest of Her Life" and "The Center of Everything." Her recent one is the New York Times best seller, "The Chaperone," a historical fiction account in 1920s New York about silent film star and dancer Louise Brooks.

This is a stellar panel of authors and an event not to be missed. Attendees will be treated to an afternoon of hearing all three authors discuss their works individually, with local Erik Williams resuming his role from last year as Master of Ceremonies.

Refreshments by Grouse Mountain Grill will be served and a cash bar offered at the lovely Pines Lodge. The Bookworm of Edwards will be on hand to sell books, followed by a meet the author/autograph opportunity. Attendees will also have their names placed in a raffle drawing for a chance to win a basket of the authors' books.

Interested readers are encouraged to register early. Go to for more information about this event and to register. You can also purchase tickets in person at the Avon Public Library or call with specific questions at 949-6797.

You might also want to add these authors' works to your reading list. Contact your nearest library to place a hold on the next available copy, or you can purchase titles at the Bookworm.

Last year's authors were Erin Blakemore ("Heroine's Bookshelf"), Tatjana Soli ("Lotus Eaters"), and Jennifer Haigh ("Faith").

I'll be sharing library staff blogs about our upcoming authors' works in a future column, as the event gets closer. Hope you can join us for a lively Saturday afternoon this spring with Books in Bloom!
