Winner of Crazy Mountain Brewery's Homebrew ProAm announced

EDWARDS - Crazy Mountain Brewing Company announced the winner of its third annual Homebrew ProAm: Thomas Deverson of Avon. Deverson's Rye Pale Ale beat out 32 other beer entries from homebrewers around the state of Colorado (and a few from Kansas). The judging took place last week, on Thursday, when five local beer experts sampled and scored the many entries across all different beer styles, ranging from spiced winter beers to crisp Pilsners. After five grueling hours, they decided upon Deverson, who moved to Avon from Christchurch, New Zealand for the love of snow last year. He began homebrewing four years ago when his passion for beer was born. He loves homebrewing and hopes to open his own brew pub someday. His favorite part about brewing beer is the creative process.

"I take brewing beer very seriously - but at the same time, it's just beer after all," he said.

Deverson calls himself a fun-loving New Zealander who loves to share his homebrews with his friends. When he is not at his full time job at Sports Authority in Avon, Deverson enjoys homebrewing, spending time with his girlfriend and snowboarding in powder.

"I just sampled some of Thomas's Rye Pale Ale and it was very refreshing. It is a great springtime beer and we are happy to have Thomas come in and brew a scaled-up version of his original recipe on our 20-barrel professional system," said Crazy Mountain's Head Brewer Ethan Osborne.

The brewers at Crazy Mountain will be scaling up Deverson's unique recipe and ordering ingredients so he can brew his Rye Pale Ale next week. Deverson will also have the opportunity to name the beer and pair it with a local non-profit of his choice. The beer will be released at a special party at Crazy Mountain Brewery on March 29th. The brewery will pour $2 pints of the Rye Pale and The Olora Brothers will perform live music.

Crazy Mountain Brewing Company would like to thank all of the homebrewers who entered their beers into our ProAm. The official judges and the brewery employees really loved tasting the variety of styles of the 32 entries.
