Vail Daily obituary: Marjorie Anne Roberts, 1952-2013

Marjorie Anne Roberts, of Eagle-Vail, passed away at home on March 17 after gracefully living with ovarian cancer for six years.

Marjie was born in Illinois on March 9, 1952, to the late Anne Halsey and Charles Shepherd Roberts Sr. The fourth of six children, Marjie grew up in Winnetka, Ill., and graduated high school from Woodlands Academy of the Sacred Heart, Lake Forest, Ill. She then earned a bachelor's degree from Arizona State University in 1974 and remained in Arizona after graduation.

Marjie began a career in international travel sales and marketing with Club Mediterranee and soon became a regional marketing representative for Princess Cruises and Royal Viking Line. During this time, she moved to Southern California for four years but returned to Scottsdale, Ariz., in 1984. Working within the travel industry sparked her desire for worldwide travel, which she gladly shared with family and friends. However, it was her first ski trip nearly 45 years ago that kindled her love for the Gore Creek Valley and, in 1989, Marjie adopted Vail as her permanent home.

Soon after her arrival, she was hired as an owner liaison at East West Hospitality, where she worked for three years before venturing out on her own. It was then Marjie built her own residential property management business, "A Woman's Touch," offering household administration and concierge services in the Vail Valley. Over the last 20 years, Marjie supported 30 clients, coordinating services and special projects with numerous local businesses. A strong businesswoman, she always was a stickler for details, ensuring she would meet her clients' expectations.

Marjie made and retained many friends over the years, both local and global. She loved being with family and friends whether here in Vail, visiting where they lived, or going off together to some other favorite location. When not working, traveling or entertaining out, she also enjoyed being at home gardening, reading and sharing time with her yellow Labradors, which numbered four over the years: Dugan, Powder, Simon and Carter.

Marjie was beautiful, strong, caring and a consummate lady. These attributes, so much a part of her, never waned even when she had to deal with incurable cancer. A loving sister, aunt, and friend who will be greatly missed, Marjie is survived by her two brothers, Charles S. Roberts Jr. and Halsey G. Roberts; three sisters, Catherine Roberts Kane, Susan M. Roberts and Virginia L. Roberts; uncle and aunt John and Ann Roberts; three nieces, four nephews; many close cousins and second cousins; and her ever-loving canine companions, Carter and Cholly.

Marjie and her family express heartfelt thanks to the Shaw Regional Cancer Center and Hospice of the Valley and their clinical and administrative teams who cared for and looked after Marjie during these last six years. You had been her guardian angels as now she is yours!

Marjie's family is planning a memorial inscription for her in Vail Memorial Park and will hold a Celebration of Life at the Eagle-Vail Pavillion on the afternoon of May 26. Interment will follow later this year at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in New York.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials in Marjie's name be made to support programs at the Shaw Regional Cancer Center (www.shawcancercenter.com) and/or the services of HomeCare and Hospice of the Valley (www.hchotv.org), both located in Edwards.
