VAIL - The 23rd annual Taste of Vail moves into its second day today with the iconic Colorado Lamb Cookoff & Apres Ski Tasting and seminars. The day will wrap up with a new Craft Cocktail event this evening. Visitors still can buy a full festival pass to experience all of Taste of Vail or participate in select events and seminars throughout the weekend. The 9th Annual Colorado Lamb Cook-Off & Aprs Ski Tasting takes place from 3 to 6 p.m. in Vail Village. Thousands of festivalgoers are expected to take to the streets of Vail sampling some of the best lamb dishes served up from area restaurants. The American Lamb Board sponsors the annual event and helps judge the best lamb recipe. Last year's winner of the lamb competition was Chef Douglas Dodd and the team at Tavern on the Square in The Arrabelle for its Lamb PuPu platter. The dish was served with pot stickers and barbecue steamed buns, Hong Kong style. Second place went to Beano's Cabin and third place went to first time cook-off participant Matsuhisa. The People's Choice winner was Game Creek Restaurant. In addition to the lamb, wineries will showcase a wide array of varietals within the theme of "Life Beyond Chardonnay, Cabernet and Merlot." Samples of riesling, sauvignon blanc, pinot noir, shiraz and zinfandel will be poured throughout the event. Unlimited tasting tickets are $75, with individual samples available for $4 each.If the wine and lamb from the cook off aren't enough, the "Davidoff Cigars with Woodford Bourbon and Jack Daniels Single Barrel" event takes place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at The Tap Room. Representatives from Davidoff Cigars will be on hand to demonstrate pairings of their renowned products. The event is $50 or included in the festival pass. Manor Vail will host an evening "Craft Cocktail event" in conjunction with Brown Forman featuring Heradurra Tequila. The only 100 percent hacienda-made tequila in the world, Herradura combines over 135 years of experience with the essence of this magnificent hacienda, the town of Amatitn and the state of Jalisco. The event is $30 or included in the festival pass. Visit www.tasteofvail.com to learn more.
