VAIL -On Thursday from 3:30 to 5 p.m., the Vail Public Library welcomes families to an Earth Day celebration in the Vail Public Library Community Room. Participants (children ages three and up) will get the chance to visit with both Smokey Bear and a very large drop of water. "Vail Public Library has partnered with Home Depot and the Eagle River Water & Sanitation District to put on this fun and free Earth Day event," said Michelle Jirenec, youth services specialist at the library. Children will create beautiful art and do some planting from items generously donated by Home Depot. Goodie bags filled with eco-friendly tools will be passed out to participants. Some of the tools included are shower timers, soil moisture meters and leak detector tablets. Goodie bags will be supplied by the Eagle River Water & Sanitation District. "These water conservation tools will be great to use year round because every day should be Earth Day," said Cricket Pylman, children's librarian.Smokey the Bear will kick off the festivities."We are honored to have Smokey come talk to the participants about being good to the Earth. Smokey will start off the event so you might want to get there as close to 3:30 as possible," said Lori A. Barnes, town librarian. "We will also have someone from the Eagle River Water & Sanitation District dressed as a very large water drop talking about the importance of using water wisely."Registration is at the door and parents must accompany their children.
