GYPSUM - No Johnny? No problem.
With Johnny Bailey missing the first half of Saturday's game - he was taking his ACTs - the Eagle Valley boys lacrosse team didn't miss a beat. The Devils took out Pueblo West, 11-5, at Hot Stuff Stadium.
Noah Ejnes and Jared Salaz filled in for the junior, and were fantastic.
"They stepped up," Devils coach Ted Boddy said. "Jared had a goal and two assists, and Noah gave us great spacing, ball-handling and came up with quite a few ground balls."
Nick Briggs also played a key role, assuming the role of offensive quarterback with three goals and one assist. Gregg Salaz and Sam Boyd each had two goals. Jesus Garcia, Mike Ramunno and Justin Hart also scored.
Eagle Valley upped its record to 3-7. After spring break, the Devils continue their six-game homestand with Glenwood Springs on April 22.
Devils baseball sweeps Demons
GYPSUM - It wasn't a beautiful day, but Eagle Valley baseball played two anyway.
And it worked out well with the Devils sweeping Glenwood Springs, 6-2 and 26-2.
In the first game, Travis Edgar was in command. He went all seven inning and fanned 11 Demons. Dylan Trudeau delivered more good pitching with five innings in the nightcap.
Pretty much everyone in Devils' pinstripes hit well, but Eagle Valley skipper Jesse Meryhew gave out props to catcher Zach Linder and Trudeau.
"We've been able to hit the ball well," Meryhew said. "We just haven't been able to put them together. Today was a team effort."
Eagle Valley (6-4 overall and 5-1 in the Slope) is at Battle Mountain April 23 after the break.
