Local artist’s piece on display at Vail Library

VAIL — The new art initiative between Art in Public Places and the Vail Public Library continues by prominently exhibiting a work of art by an Eagle County artist above the library’s fireplace. Hazel Murray’s “Stream in Maloit Park, Minturn, CO,” a watercolor and gouache landscape, will be on view at the library through April 14 during normal library hours.

Murray’s work, often referred to as semi-abstract, captures the interpretive and compositional form of landscapes, figures and still lifes. Her careful editing and subjective translation result in paintings of pronounced atmospheric context.

A resident of Cordillera, where she and her family built a home 13 years ago, Murray works on a full-time basis as a painter. Constantly perfecting her art, she actively participates in premier painting workshops throughout the country and Europe. Her work has been exhibited throughout the East Coast and is in numerous private and public collections. She also has a studio in Manhattan where she resides part-time.

The library’s striking stone fireplace has always served as a gathering place for guests to relax and enjoy the many amenities provided by the library. Art in Public Places is very pleased to work with the library to offer an indoor location to display works by local artists.

Information regarding the parameters, review process, deadlines and application for the temporary rotating art at the Vail Public Library may be found on www.artinvail.com. This opportunity is open to Eagle County residents and property owners. The next deadline to submit your application for this temporary art review by the Art in Public Places Board is April 2.
