VAIL — The Vail Jazz Foundation continues its Winter Jazz Series with the Diego Figueiredo Quartet at The Fitz lounge on Sunday.
At just 24 years old, Brazilian Diego Figueiredo is electrifying the jazz community with his impassioned lyrical phrasing and unprecedented technique. Diego surpasses expectations and “rewrites the books” on improvisation and jazz guitar. Winner of two awards at the prestigious Montreaux Jazz Festival, Figueiredo presents a fusion between jazz, Bossa Nova and classical sounds. He studied jazz guitar on a full scholarship at the Berklee College of Music. George Benson, 10-time Grammy Award-winning American musician and singer-songwriter, called Figueiredo “one of the greatest guitarists I’ve seen in my whole life.”
Figueiredo has performed at the Vail Jazz Festival in 2012 and 2013, exemplifying his masterful skills and extraordinary talent. This year, he will be joined by Bob Rebholz on tenor saxophone and flute, Eduardo “Bijoux” Barbosa on bass and Vail’s own Allan Finney on drums.
The Fitz lounge at Manor Vail Lodge will be the setting for the quartet’s two-set performance — at 8 and 9 p.m. Tickets are available for each seating for $20; $30 for both sets. The Fitz will provide a menu for guests who want appetizers, a light meal or dessert. There is a $10 food and beverage minimum for these performances. Lord Gore will donate 20 percent of sales from Sunday night to the Vail Jazz Foundation’s educational programs. Tickets are available at www.vailjazz.org or 970-479-6146.
