EDWARDS — Alpine Arts Center is celebrating their four-year anniversary Friday and they are inviting the community to join in the festivities. From 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., drop-in for free arts center group projects is available, as well as $4 individual drop-in activities, including clay sculpture, painting, crafts and more. Then from 5 to 7 p.m., Alpine Arts Center is hosting a customer appreciation party featuring musicians Dave Laub and Scott Kabel, $4 drink specials, birthday cake and bubbly. Throughout the evening, Alpine Arts Center will continue kids art projects upstairs while the party takes place in the main art room.
“Dave Laub performed at our one-year anniversary party, so it’s great to have him back again this year,” said Lauren Merrill, owner of Alpine Arts Center.
Laub is a former music teacher from Vail Mountain School, where Merrill and Laub worked together for many years. He was bandleader of Flux 5 and Fried Grease, and currently freelancing in the Boulder/Denver area. His partner for the evening, Scott Kabel, was the lead guitarist/vocalist for Little Hercules and currently plays with Min’urn Express and at various venues around town.
Every year for their anniversary, Alpine Arts Center has created a piece of permanent art for the center. This year, the plan is to create beautiful stained glass art for the windows above the doors.
“It’s a tradition and people love seeing their art on display,” Merrill said. “So far we have created clay tile plaques in the ceramics area, a mini canvas collaborative painting, and large-scale murals in the bathroom and kids art room. I love how each year we add to the creative feel of Alpine Arts Center. When you walk into the space, it gives you the feel of creativity bursting from the seams.”
Customers and guests are encouraged to drop-in anytime between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Friday to participate in this community art project.
In addition to all of the anniversary festivities, Alpine Arts Center has a number of other community events and classes on the schedule for March, and they are also currently enrolling for kids and teen summer camps.
