AVON — This spring, Maya’s modern Mexican kitchen and tequila bar will host the Maya Tamale Festival through May 31. Tamales are a traditional Latin American dish that have long been served at feasts. Chef Richard Sandoval designed Maya’s Tamale Festival to celebrate this culinary heritage with surprising new tamale flavors and textures created by combining authentic ingredients in unexpected ways.
Special menu items available for Maya’s Tamale Festival include:
Spicy mango margarita ($11) — Serrano-infused blanco tequila, mango, sour, simple syrup and citrus.
La Futura ($11) — Agavales reposado tequila, ginger liqueur, agave nectar and pineapple juice.
Tamale sampler ($17) — Served with specially selected 3-ounce beer pairings from Crazy Mountain Brewery.
Chicken tinga tamale with tomatillo salsa — paired with Mountain Livin’ Pale Ale.
Sweet corn tamale with queso fresco — paired with La Rubia Blonde Ale.
Mole pork tamale — paired with Lava Lake Wit.
Frijol tamale con queso with entomatada salsa — paired with Crazy Mountain Amber Ale.
Chicken Tinga tamale ($18) — Chicken tinga tamale, refried black beans, Mexican rice, salsa verde, crema fresca and pickled veggies.
Suggested beer pairing: Mountain Livin’ Pale Ale ($5).
Pork tamale ($21) — Pork tamale in banana leaves, mole negro, black beans and creamy plantain rice.
Suggested beer pairing: Lava Lake Wit ($5).
Starting on April 20, Maya will also be launching an All Night Happy Hour daily from 2:30 p.m. to close, with specials including $2 handcrafted tacos, $5 margaritas and $4 bites, including Mahi Mahi ceviche, smoked brisket nachos and steak flatbread.
