STARS program wrap up season at the Vilar on Tuesday

BEAVER CREEK — The Vilar Performing Arts Center welcomes Eagle County students for two free performances Tuesday to conclude the 16th season of the STARS program. Support the Arts Reaching Students, a project of the Vail Valley Foundation which offers artistic, educational and cultural enrichment through in-school workshops and daytime shows throughout the school year.

Opera Colorado Young Artists will present an abridged version of the quintessential opera comedy by Italian composer Rossini, “The Barber of Seville.” Barber by day and matchmaker by night, Figaro puts his charm to work as he helps Count Almaviva woo the beautiful maiden Rosina. She’s such a catch that her guardian, Dr. Bartolo, keeps her under lock and key with the intent of marrying her himself. Expect silly disguises and hilarious antics in this unforgettable romantic comedy. Recommended for grades 3 to 5, this masterpiece will be sung in English and incorporate several of opera’s most recognizable songs.

Making Art Accessible

“It has been another remarkable season of STARS at the VPAC, and we are excited to welcome students for such a fun show,” said Kris Sabel, executive director for the Vilar Performing Arts Center. “The STARS program fully encompasses our goal of making live performance accessible to all ages in our community, and we look forward to having students experience opera in our hall this Tuesday.”

A number of tickets are available to the public for purchase for Tuesday’s performances at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Prices are $14 for adults and $11 for students (with valid student ID). For more information visit www.vilar pac.org or call 970-845-8497.
