Donate children’s books at Vail library

Vail Public Library is a donation site for the Colorado Business Reads book drive, which benefits Colorado’s statewide early literacy project. You are invited to donate children’s books to the project now through May 17. There is a book box just outside the library doors for your convenience.

The project is designed to place books in the homes of children birth through eight years old, while highlighting the importance of adult-child interaction through reading activities.

The project is an event that revolves around Colorado Literacy Week, drawing public attention to the importance of early learning and launching numerous efforts to put Colorado’s children on the path to reading success.

About Colorado Literacy Week

As part of Colorado Literacy Week, the Vail Public Library will host a “Birthday Party for 4 Year Olds” on May 9 at 4 p.m. Children who are four years old or will be four in 2013 are invited to come celebrate their collective birthday, where they’ll enjoy balloons, cake and games. Call 970-479-2179 to sign up. This event is free, but the organizers would like to have a head count.

The purpose of Colorado Literacy Week is to draw public attention to the importance of early learning and to launch numerous efforts that will put Colorado’s children on a path to reading success.

Events during the week provide opportunities to inform Coloradans on ways to become involved in the early literacy movement. From launching the statewide One Book 4 Colorado reading program for four year olds (www.onebook4colorado.org), to visiting and recognizing some of the top literacy organizations in the state, this week will highlight successes in early literacy programs and work to educate, empower and inform citizens.
