EAGLE-VAIL — Join Eagle-Vail Community Garden steward Joyce Hildebrand as she leads a workshop on greens at the demonstration gardens today from 6 to 6:30 p.m. During the brief but informative workshop, she will cover: history behind the seeds planted; seeding and growing tips; succession planting; washing, spinning and storing greens; culinary ideas for creating beautiful, tasty and satisfying green salads; and how to blanch and freeze greens such as spinach, chard and ovation greens for use throughout the winter. Everybody will go home with a bag of greens.

Free compost tea application

Shawn Bruckman and Sam Gervais, of The Ground Up, believe that healthy soil is the foundation of healthy communities. So they are offering free compost tea application today at the Eagle-Vail Community Garden from 10 to 11 a.m. There will be flags near the bulletin board, if you wish for a free application of compost tea, then put a flag in your garden.

The Ground Up is a company that applies commercial compost tea to lawn, garden and landscape projects. The tea feeds the soil for healthier plants and ecosystems. Bruckman and Gervais are committed to improving soil quality for increased food production, more lush landscapes and biodiversity.

Their high quality compost tea counteracts the damage caused by synthetic fertilizers and biocides. For more information, contact them at shawn.bruckman@gmail.com.

Coming up at the garden on July 28 (from 9 to 10:30 a.m.), Revolution Yoga will rock the garden. For more information, email evcommunity garden@gmail.com or visit www.eaglevailgarden.com.
