Musical artist Arlo Guthrie to perform at Beaver Creek

BEAVER CREEK— Celebrating what would have been the Centennial of his father’s birth, Arlo Guthrie takes the Vilar Center stage Monday night to perform “Here Comes the Kid,” a solo tribute to Woody Guthrie.

Arlo Guthrie, who has been playing political music and telling stories his entire life, brings his blend of music and storytelling to the Vilar Performing Arts Center with this special tribute show.

“Arlo Guthrie’s solo tribute concert is the perfect example of a show that lends itself well to our intimate hall,” said Kris Sabel, executive director for the Vilar Performing Arts Center. “Arlo is an incredible story teller and he has some amazing stories tell, of his father, of Woodstock… it will be full of unforgettable moments that our audience members will experience in close proximity to the stage. If you’re an Arlo or Woody fan, or simply appreciate legendary folk music, do not miss this special opportunity.”

In 1967, Arlo Guthrie’s satirical anti-war anthem, “Alice’s Restaurant,” defined a generation. He’s since done about 30 records, a few motion pictures, a TV series, a children’s book, started a few recording and production companies and two not-for-profit foundations. Among his other career highlights, Arlo was made famous for his Top 40 Hit “The City of New Orleans,” and “Coming into Los Angeles,” which he sang at the legendary Woodstock music festival, and which featured prominently in both the Woodstock movie and multi-platinum soundtrack album.

Arlo Guthrie has always honored his father in song as well as in life. Tonight will be a unique tribute as Arlo reflects on his family and his and his father’s libraries of music.

The show begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $58 and still available at www.vilarpac.org, by phone at 970-845-TIXS or in person at the VPAC Box Office in Beaver Creek.
