Charmayne Bernhardt’s watercolor landscape “Winter Whispers."
Special to the Daily |

VAIL — The new art initiative between the town of Vail Public Library and Art in Public Places (AIPP) continues with the fifth application and selection review to prominently display a work of art above the library’s fireplace. This public art program between AIPP and the library serves as an opportunity for Eagle County artists to have a work of art on view in this location for a period of approximately three months.

Each artist is allowed to submit one work for each selection review. If selected, it is required that the work remain on view for the three month period from July 14 through Oct. 13.

The striking stone fireplace has always served as a gathering place for library guests to relax and enjoy the many amenities provided by the library. AIPP is very pleased to work with the library to offer an indoor location to promote the visual arts in Vail.

Presently on view is Charmayne Bernhardt’s watercolor landscape “Winter Whispers.” Bernhardt has been drawing and painting since she was a very young child. She has lived in Vail since the mid-’70s and loves this area for its raw beauty, majestic wildlife and friendly people. She works in all mediums, but primarily in watercolor. She studied art on a full scholarship at the duCret School of Art, graduating summa cum laude with a bachelor of arts degree and focus on “Old Masters” education.

Her illustrative work may be seen on Vail and Beaver Creek mountains, trailhead signs on the East Vail hiking trails and other U.S. Forest Service parks and town of Vail illustrations. She also paints the labels for Vail Mountain Coffee & Tea Co., numerous business and restaurant logos, murals, children’s and medical book illustrations, greeting cards and paintings held in private collections.
