On Wednesday at 5:30 p.m., the Vail Public Library will host “Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, Here and Now.” The story of the young star-crossed lovers, she was 13 and he not much older, is well known, but audiences are often less familiar with the adults who fail them, their parents, priest and nurse, to name a few. The balcony scene is well known as well, but much stunning poetry and drama exist throughout the play in less famous scenes. The Vail Public Library is located at 292 West Meadow Drive.

Join us to explore the many aspects of this classic play. You may discuss, read out loud or just listen. The library has nine copies of “Romeo and Juliet,” which you may check out in advance if you plan to come, or bring your own copy if you have one. Reading the play before we meet is an option, but not required. Sally Frostic, the group’s convener, is a veteran teacher of honors English literature and honors humanities. She has an masters degree from the University of Chicago in Theology and Literature. Her overall emphasis is on enjoyment, discussion and reading brief excerpts together and learning about the playwright and his world.

This event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. For more information please call 970-479-2187.
