Halloween events kick off Saturday around Eagle County

EAGLE COUNTY — With some local bars offering up to $1,000 in cash and prizes, even Eagle County's big kids should consider finding a costume ASAP. Though Halloween isn't until Thursday, many establishments are celebrating Saturday night. So go hunt down your best Miley Cyrus get up and start practicing your twerking skills.
For Kids and Families
The inaugural Minturn Monster Dash starts at 4 p.m. Costumes encouraged. All fitness levels (runners and walkers) welcome. Dogs welcome on a leash. Overall finisher awards, prizes for best costumes and Halloween cupcakes and race t-shirts while they last. Cost is $35 for three mile race or $20 for the family run. Fright at the Museum, 3-7 p.m. at Walking Mountains Science Center in Avon,
This fun-filled community event, in partnership with the Denver Museum of Nature and Science and the Denver Zoo, allows kids to uncover mysteries and learn about creepy crawly critters after dark. Explore the campus as the sun goes down to learn with the science center's nature enthusiasts. A highlight of the evening is sure to be the Spooky Forest, where those who dare enter will encounter a scare. Walking Mountains Science Center will also offer other fun experiences for the entire family, such as an animal obstacle course, storytelling and mad scientist concoctions. Fright at the Museum will have something for everyone, while also raising vital support for the center's educational programs. Trick or Treat Street, 5-7 p.m., Eagle Ranch
This event will celebrate Halloween on "Trick or Treat Street" with candy, a haunted hallway and a photo booth. Slifer's main hallway, from the front to the back, will be fully decorated in a spooky theme with lights and skeletons. Every shop in Eagle Ranch will provide something for the kids along the way, including hot chocolate, candy and even a scary movie.
Minturn Halloween celebration, 4 to 8 p.m.
New this year, Vail Valley Medical Center's Mobile Simulation Lab RV will be in the Town Hall parking lot from 4 to 8 p.m. and transformed into Monster's University! The state-of-the-art medical training tool will welcome trick or treaters inside to take their best shot at scaring their manikin, with a scare-o-meter judging their "scariness." The scare-o-meter, as seen in Monster's University, will also be accompanied by lots of candy and fun! Visit http://www.downtownminturn.com.
Trick or Treat Trot: Infants and kids through 10 years old and their families are invited to spend their Halloween with the Vail Recreation District on Thursday. Start your festivities at the Town of Vail Public Library with a Halloween-themed story/activity hour at 1 p.m. From 2 to 5 p.m. costumed children should head to Vail Village or Lionshead Village for trick or treating at participating businesses.
At the Trick or Treat Trot, participating merchants are identifiable by an oversized jack-o-lantern bag displayed at their entrance. A limited number of Trick or Treat Trot bags will be available at VRD Community Programming on the third floor of the Lionshead parking structure on a first-come, first-served basis, compliments of the Vail Police Department. The VRD also encourages participants to bring their own reusable bags.

Boulder-based bass duo returns to Samana Lounge in Vail for Halloween show.
Attendees donning the two best costumes will each win a pair of tickets to any of the released upcoming events at Samana Lounge, including chose of Love and Light on Nov. 22, Eliot Lipp on Dec. 12, Mark Farina on Dec. 13 or Christian Martin on Jan. 3.
