High Altitude Society: Vilar Guild hosts ‘An Elegant Evening’
January 31, 2014
On Jan. 27, the Beaver Creek Club was buzzing with Vilar Performing Arts Center Guild members and their guests. The eighth annual foodie event was "An Elegant Evening" with long tables spread out with fine cuisine prepared by notable chefs from the valley's finest restaurants. The list of participating establishments is exhaustive but includes more than 20 restaurants, from Allie's Cabin to Zino Ristorante.
Doris Dewton, who was named volunteer of the year in 2010 by the Vail Valley Foundation, addressed the crowd by welcoming everyone and thanking the Guild volunteers that helped organize and orchestrate the evening. A special thanks was given to the Beaver Creek Club staff for all of their hard work. The three event chairs, Joel Cox, Maureen Riordan and Patti Thompson, were congratulated on a successful event.
The evening was referred to as a "friend-raiser" not a fundraiser because it was about increasing awareness of the Guild and inviting new members. The Guild's primary fundraiser is in the summer and features two gourmet dinners in private homes. Twenty diners per party will enjoy delicious cuisine and company and lively entertainment.
Linking Community Together
The Vilar Center Guild is a link between Vilar Performing Arts Center and the community. The purpose of the Guild is to increase accessibility, arts education and audience. During the past ten years, the Guild has provided tickets to local students, as well as reading books, through partnerships with The Literacy Project, The Magic Bus and The Buddies Program. This type of mission makes Gail Weinnig excited about being a Guild member.
"I like the scholarship opportunities for the local children. I like the broadening of the people that these shows are available to … I like the mixed groups and young people," Weinnig said.
