Jonny Mogambo brings his band to Vail Ale House Saturday
July 6, 2013
The Jonny Mogambo Band, a four-member funk-rock-rhythm-and-groove band, performs at the Vail Ale House tonight from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Most recently, Jonny Mogambo has been performing shows all over the country, from North Carolina and New Orleans to Tulsa, Okla. and Toronto, Canada. Mogambo and his band are back in Colorado for most of the summer and have some great shows lined up. At tonight’s show, expect everything from rock ‘n’ roll and funk jams to some Colorado-inspired originals. Mogambo will be joined by his band members, some of the hottest players on the Colorado scene, he said.
The lineup includes Dan Schwindt on bass guitar, who many know as the guitarist from the Kyle Hollingsworth Trio; Kyle Comerford on drums (Sally Taylor, The Reejers). Saxophonist Andrew Vogt, of the Fort Collins jazz and funk scene, will also join the band.
Vogt’s saxophone playing has been featured on many Jonny Mogambo albums, and he also fronts bands ZARO and The Andrew Vogt Gypsy Street Trio and can be heard in Denver on the radio station KUVO in regular rotation.
The band will highlight music from the band’s latest CD, titled “Jonny Mogambo Band Best of … So Far,” including highly-requested songs like “Telluride,” “Party Goin’ On” and “Dinner in Paradise.”
“The songs tell stories of life in Colorado and on the road,” Mogambo said. “There are also politically charged themes in some of the music that continue to be relevant today. But, this is mostly a great party band that always gets people dancing and elevates the atmosphere to one of transcendent proportions.”
This is a well-defined, tight band that brings years of experience to the stage to deliver a high-energy mix of funk, rock, rhythm and blues with influences of jazz, bluegrass, SKA and reggae thrown in. Members of this band have shared the stage with the likes of Nelson Rangell, John Popper of Blues Traveler, James Taylor, Los Lobos, Jimmy Buffet, Everclear, Edwin McCain and the Violent Femmes to name a few. The band has released six original CD’s together.
“This is sure to be a booty shaking extravaganza and musical experience not to be missed,” Mogambo said.
